Start Your Volunteering Story...

A host of volunteering organisations are coming together on Tuesday 13 June 2023 at the Mayfield Centre in BD5 to showcase the different and exciting volunteering roles available within the Better Start Bradford programme.

Better Place, Bradford Doulas, HENRY, Home-Start Bradford District, the Family Action Perinatal Support Service, Better Start Bradford plus more will be on hand to showcase the rewarding roles available to suit different starting points and personal circumstances.

Participants will also receive a free ‘summer surprise’ goody bag and the opportunity to:

  • Find out details of the different roles available.
  • Hear from, and chat with friendly people from a range of organisations to find out about how volunteering really does change lives.
  • Discover personal development opportunities that go hand-in-hand with volunteering.

Abrar Hussain, Workforce Development Manager, Better Start Bradford, said:

Many not-for-profit organisations rely on volunteers to help deliver their services. They also provide opportunities for those volunteers to gain many skills that leads to increased confidence, access to training, potential change in careers, improved mental well-being and so much more. By bringing a group of volunteering organisations together, we hope to showcase the opportunities that are out there in Bradford for people that may be able to spare a couple of hours each week.

Tanya Marshall, 34, is a Home-Start Bradford District volunteer. She said:

I love volunteering for many reasons. The biggest factor for me is wanting to help the local community, but also, volunteering gives you great experience to help improve your job prospects. Through supporting families with young children, not only have I grown in confidence, but I am learning new approaches on how to deal with things. I know that the support we provide makes a massive difference and I’d thoroughly recommend it.

If you are interested in starting your own volunteering story, please book a place here and the organisations will see you at the Mayfield Centre, Broadway Avenue, BD5 9NP from 10.00am on Tuesday 13 June 2023.
