Bradford Perinatal Support Service secures £20,000 to set up a Maternity Circle
23 June 2023
Family Action Perinatal Support Service is celebrating after receiving funding of £20,000 from Community Partnership 5 (CP5) to set up a Maternity Circle.
Thanks to the funding, the Perinatal Support Service will be able to invite parents from Bowling and Barkerend and Bradford Moor wards to the Maternity Circle which will ‘open the door to access more’ for new and expectant mums. The Circle will provide access to support services, health advice, and wellbeing support for pregnant mums and mums with children up to the age of two.
The Circle will be a drop-in session weekly, with lots of advice and sharing of information, and high-quality input from different services within the maternity system, locally and across Bradford.
Katie James, Service Manager, Family Action Perinatal Support Service said:
This funding means that we can provide support and access to other services for a wide group of mums within the CP5 Community Partnership area. The Circle will be warm and welcoming and provide information and support for all things maternity. This will include health advice, wellbeing support, and everything needed to ensure they have the best possible maternity experience, and their babies have the best possible start in life.
Becky McIlvenny, facilitator of the Circle, said:
I am so excited to be part of such an amazing project, and it feels really good to know we can assist mums to know what support is available and help them to access what they need.
Abbas Bashir, Chair of Community Partnership 5 (CP5) said:
We are really pleased to see that the investment from the national Core20PLUS5 funding will be used to deliver direct support into our local communities. This Maternity Circle project will help provide mothers and families in the area with the maternity support they need to help their babies have the best start in life. We hope the funding will go some way towards responding to local needs and addressing the health inequalities we see across Bradford District and Craven so that local families can live happy and healthy lives.
Kerry Bennett, Integration & Change Manager, Better Start Bradford, said:
Maternity circles are a great way to support women and we are delighted that Community Partnership 5 are the first to do this in the Better Start Bradford area. We are really looking forward to seeing their Maternity Circle ‘open the door’ and enable expectant and new families to access more support in the Bowling and Barkerend and Bradford Moor ward areas.
The Maternity Circle will meet every Tuesday morning 9.30 -11.30am, with the first Circle on Tuesday 4th July 2023 at The Vine Centre, Parsonage Road, BD4 8PL.
