What is Talking Together
Talking Together provides language assessments for all two-year-olds in the Better Start Bradford area. Families who would benefit from extra support are offered one-to-one sessions at home over a six-week period.
These sessions help parents and carers engage their children in activities, play and conversation to help their communication and language development as well as their ability to interact positively with people around them.
What difference does Talking Together make?
Talking Together results in more children:
- Having age-appropriate language skills
- Increasing their vocabulary
- Being better prepared for starting school
- Interacting appropriately with others
It also has a long-term impact on their literacy skills.
Who is eligible for Talking Together?
The target group for Talking Together is two-year-olds living in the Better Start Bradford area who are identified as being at a risk of or having communication and language delay.
You’ve no idea how beneficial it’s been. It’s… changed his life really.
Through the support from the Language Development Worker my child is now interacting with me, gaining eye contact and he is now wanting to play with us. My child used to be silent and he is now using sounds and babbling. The programme has been amazing!
I have found the Talking Together Programme to be really helpful. It’s helped me to understand my child more and given me direction of how to support his communication.
