Wonder Tots

Funded through the Happy Early Years (HEY!) Fund, Wonder Tots is a stay and learn play group based at the Mayfield Centre.

The session is designed to give young children a head start before joining nursery education in a fun, interactive and safe environment with low-cost and sustainable play activities. Use of additional languages is encouraged during singing and rhyme time.

Wonder Tots is led by local mum Miriam Garcia–Sanz

“I used to attend the Mayfield playgroup that was set up by the Better Start Bradford Neighbourhood Workers to showcase good practice in early years play techniques to help development in the first years of life.

“When I told it was finishing, I looked into the opportunity to run the sessions myself with support from other parents as we wanted somewhere local for the community children and my child to keep going – I feel it is important for young children and parents to socialise and learn from each other.

“We had amazing support from the Better Start Bradford team, especially Charlotte and Arian. It has been a smooth ride in my opinion, and any questions or concerns were promptly answered by the team.

“This experience has personally helped me, I feel I have gotten back into a working life and I feel I’m more social and ready to get back to work if needed.

“We are now constituted and have successfully applied for VCS Alliance funding to continue running this play group in 2025.”
