Thornbury Tots
September 2017

Funded through Better Start Bradford’s Parents in the Lead programme, Thornbury Tots received £2030 to offer various activities for children and parents, including soft play, sensory play, messy play, singing, dancing and exercise.
It’s also a safe place for parents and carers to offload and signpost to relevant services if needed. Better Start Bradford and local projects are regularly invited to the group.

Thornbury Tots is led by mum of four, Salma Nawaz and is delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers
“I’m extremely passionate about helping children to develop in every way possible and I can empathise with the struggle parents/caregivers face when bringing up young children. As a ‘stay at home’ mum, I know how isolating, lonely and anxious this time could be. Toddler groups helped me so much and I wanted to help others, so Thornbury Tots started.
“I feel this whole experience has helped me to utilise my previous skills and knowledge, whilst giving me the opportunity to learn more and meet other professionals/organisations. I have also had the privilege of working alongside hardworking and positive individuals who share the same common interests and passions as myself and want to give back to the community.
“It has been very challenging at times with a shortage of volunteers, however, with help from Better Start Bradford and through effective teamwork we have managed to overcome these. I have been able to grow in confidence, knowledge, increase my self esteem and learn many more skills. I have also been privileged to make many friends along the way too.
“I’m hoping Thornbury Tots can continue thriving. We want to continue to educate and provide a safe, relaxed and fun environment for parents/caregivers whilst they undertake this unique journey of raising the next generation.”
Thornbury Tots takes place every Thursday morning term-time 9:15-11:15 at The Thornbury Centre, BD3 8JX.
