Sensory Art Adventures

Funded through the Happy Early Years (HEY!) Fund, Sensory Art Adventures provided sessions using various art activities for families with 0-3s and expectant parents.

Activities included: home-made playdough, sensory story time with texture rich books, messy play trays, nature art plus much more.

Sensory Art Adventures is led by Mahum Fatima

“I applied for the Happy Early Years (HEY!) Fund as I wanted to take on more of a leadership role and do something positive for the community. I also wanted to get more grandparents involved in sensory art with their young grandchildren. I used the Happy Early Years Fund to provide an inclusive space for families with under 3’s and their families to help them experience new art-based ways of playing with them to build their confidence.

“I have learned lots of new skills including managing my own project, organisation and time management, especially when planning activities within a 1.5-hour time frame. I’ve learned a lot about working with other people as I have had to liaise with early years professionals and venue providers as I have run the project in all wards of the Better Start Bradford area.

“My favourite part of the project has been seeing grandmothers come along and get involved in the activities, especially story time. It’s been so lovely to get to know families from different cultures too.

“I would like to apply for more funding and incorporate what I have learned in my other project called SEND Salaam, which focuses on empowering children with SEND needs in Bradford.”
