The search is on to find Bradford’s ‘Community Stars’ working with families with under-4s and pregnant parents. Better Start Bradford is teaming up with the Telegraph and Argus Community Stars Awards, to present the first ‘Early Years’ Award category, recognising volunteers who go the extra mile working with families in the Better Start Bradford area (Little Horton, Bowling and Barkerend and Bradford Moor wards).
Better Start Bradford is appealing to families, community leaders and professionals to nominate now, to show local early years volunteers how much their work is appreciated and valued. Nominate by 26 September at betterstartbradford.co.uk, or see the Telegraph & Argus.
The Award category, sponsored by Better Start Bradford, is for a person or group:
- Championing support to expectant parents and families with children under four, and encouraging others to get involved
- Volunteering in the Better Start Bradford area of Little Horton, Bowling & Barkerend and Bradford Moor, although they don’t have to be working with Better Start Bradford projects
- Demonstrating enthusiasm, innovation, passion and a can-do attitude
- Going the extra mile for their community.
A shortlist will be announced in October for public voting, with the awards then presented to the winners at the Community Stars Awards ceremony at Midland Hotel on 7 December. The Community Stars Awards are in partnership with Bradford Council and the community campaign ‘People Can Make a Difference’. See www.peoplecanbradforddistrict.org.uk.
Better Start Bradford is a community partnership supporting families to give children the best possible start in life, in Little Horton, Bowling & Barkerend and Bradford Moor. See betterstartbradford.co.uk.
Michaela Howell, programme director, Better Start Bradford, says: “The Community Stars Awards are so important in recognising the amazing work of volunteers across Bradford. We’re really excited to this year be supporting the first ever award specifically for volunteers who work with families with young children and expectant parents. Better Start Bradford is a programme dedicated to engaging and supporting families with under-4s, working to ensure our children have the best possible start in life, so we know how important volunteers are to so many families in our area. We’re encouraging families and family workers across our part of Bradford to nominate their Community Star now, as a thank you for their hard work and enthusiasm.”
