Better Start Bradford and Born in Bradford Conference: 15 and 16 October 2025

Speaker biographies

Foreword By Gill Thornton, Director, Better Start Bradford

Welcome to the Better Start Bradford 10 year Conference, October 2025.

I am delighted to welcome you to the Better Start Bradford two day Conference, showcasing the 10 years of our ground-breaking programme. Along with our colleagues and partners from the Born in Bradford Innovation Hub we will be asking you to join us in exploring, understanding, questioning and celebrating the impact of the programme and the evaluation and research that has been such a significant part of it. This event brings together practitioners, researchers, community leaders, and families who share a commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life.

Over the past decade, Better Start Bradford has grown into a vibrant partnership that celebrates innovation, collaboration, and community power. Together we have promoted and championed the necessity to offer support early, to prevent harm and to foster wellbeing and resilience.

Together we have made the case for a focus on evidence, good evaluation and doing what works to benefit children in early childhood. Together, we have worked to support expectant parents and families with children aged 0–3, focusing on early years development, family wellbeing, and the strength of local communities. This conference is an opportunity to reflect on the impact of that journey, share learning, and looking ahead to how we can sustain a prevention focus and grow what works.

Across these two days, you’ll hear from inspiring speakers, engage in interactive sessions, and explore practical insights from local, national, and international initiatives. Our shared goal is clear: to ensure that every child, no matter their background, has a better start—and a brighter future.

We hope these conversations spark new ideas, partnerships, and possibilities that will continue to shape early years work in Bradford and beyond.

Thank you for being part of this important event and for your ongoing dedication to creating positive change for children and families.
