My name is Fozia and I am the Neighbourhood Engagement Worker based at the Karmand Centre. I support the lovely families in the BD3 area with children 0-4 years old..

As the first four years of a child’s life is so critical, I am passionate about supporting families and helping them to access programmes, workshops and other services in the local area that will help them to build a strong foundation on which their children can thrive on and have a better future.

I absolutely enjoy what I do and I am so enthusiastic about my role as it enables me to empower parents and give them the confidence to achieve better outcomes for them and their children.

I am here at the Karmand Centre Monday to Friday, please call me, drop me an email or book an appointment to see me and find out more!

Jenny Hunt, Neighbourhood Engagement Worker, BD4 Community Trust and Better Start Bradford

Hi, my name is Jenny and I’m the Neighbourhood Engagement worker based at BD4 Community Trust. My role is to support families and young children in the BD4 and the Better Start Bradford area.

I am here to spread Better Start Bradford’s important key messages around giving children the best start in life. I also work with families to let them know what support is available to them through the various Better Start Bradford projects.

My aim is to offer support and advice to help families get the best from family life during the first 1001 critical days. I’ve also had the fantastic opportunity to take an active role in a Better Start Bradford project and have become a HENRY facilitator and recently ran my first HENRY online workshop!

I feel really lucky to have this job and think it’s a privilege to be able to support families from all different backgrounds on their journey from conception to their child starting full-time education. I am looking forward to developing this role alongside the other Neighbourhood Engagement Workers and really making a difference in the lives of those that need it most.

I am available Monday-Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm and Friday 8:00am-1:00pm

Ludmila Novosjolova, Neighbourhood Engagement Support Worker, Better Start Bradford

I am a Neighbourhood Engagement Support Worker based at the West Bowling Centre. As I am a BD5 parent myself, my passion is to support families with the young children and get the whole BD5 Neighbourhood involved with Better Start Bradford projects.

I worked in Children’s Centre settings for over five years, so I am excited to introduce local families in the unique Better Start Bradford programmes and spread their important messages, to let parents and carers know about the support available and to help improve children’s outcomes. I also speak in Russian and Latvian.

As I am passionate about early years and environmental outdoor education, together with Bowling Park Allotments and Parents in the Lead funding we have organised an Allotment Play group, where we are learning how to grow our own food, care about the nature and explore new ways of playing outdoors.

I am so grateful for all the opportunities that Better Start Bradford gives our children and feel privileged to be part of it. If you would like to find out more about any local projects, please get in touch.

My usual working hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:45pm

Melissa Ryan-Thomas, Neighbourhood Engagement Support Worker, Better Start Bradford

I work on the Neighbourhood Engagement Project and I have worked in the Better Start Bradford area for over 15 years.

I have a keen passion for supporting families and young children to have a fulfilling life. I am based at The Thornbury Centre in BD3 and I plan and set up activities based on family-centred approaches and cover the BD3 area of Bradford.

My role also enables me to get out into the community to meet and engage with new people, helping them discover new things about themselves and their families and the brilliant services that are available to them.

This role is a dream job for me as I love supporting parents and children into the Better Start Bradford projects. I know how such work can change lives – being a parent myself, it gives me joy to know I can point parents in the right direction just as I was some 15 years ago.

I bring great energy, compassion, and empathy to the work I do with families and the wider community that I serve. I am also a qualified Personal Trainer and Nutritionist with a strong interest in family health and wellbeing.

If you would like to find out more about what I do please get in touch.

I am available Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:00pm

Fiona Saville, Community Engagement Co-ordinator, Better Start Bradford

Hi, I’m Fiona and I’m the Community Engagement Co-ordinator at Better Start Bradford.

I have a long history of working in youth and community engagement and early years leadership, initially starting out in the Kirklees area before moving to the Bradford district. I have lived, studied and brought my children up in and around the Better Start Bradford area over the last 20 years.

I’m very fortunate to have such a dedicated team who motivate, challenge and inspire me on a daily basis. I also love working with our Neighbourhood Workers who share their innovative approaches to community engagement and often teach me a thing or two! And not forgetting our wider district voluntary and community sector partners who are always supportive of the work that we do.

We have learned lots already about engagement with our families in the Better Start Bradford area and have lots more that we want to share with you. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, so if you’re interested please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me – I will always have time for a chat. 😊

I am available Monday to Friday.

Humera Khan, Family and Community Engagement Worker, Better Start Bradford (BD3 and BD4)

Hi everyone, my name is Humera Khan.

I am a Family and Community Engagement Worker, covering mainly the BD3 area. Before this role I was an environment worker in BD3, so I feel super blessed that I continue to work on the front-line with our incredible families.

As well as promoting  our Better Start Bradford projects, I also run and facilitate groups such as English classes, health groups, walking groups, visits to green spaces and much more. These activities all come from the ‘Community Voice’ approach that our team values, as well as making sure we are promoting our  key messages.

I feel extremely grateful to have a career where we can help others, as well as meeting amazing people.  I hope to see you around! 😊

I am available  Monday to Friday

Sally Teasdale, Family and Community Engagement Worker, Better Start Bradford (BD5 and BD4)

Hi, my name is Sally. I am a Family and Community Engagement Worker and I have worked for the Better Start Bradford programme since its infancy in 2015. I work primarily in the BD5 area but also support my colleague Humera across the other parts of the Better Start Bradford area.

My background is in youth and community work and I have worked in the district since 1998. I feel very blessed to have a job where I can support families either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, to help them flourish and move forward with the development of their children.

I have a keen interest in health and nutrition and I am a qualified nutritionist. This has really helped me with my role at Better Start Bradford to offer my skills to projects such as HENRY.  My role has evolved and developed in the time I’ve worked here.  Some of the things I have been involved in are walking groups, running cook and eat sessions, delivering one off taster sessions around nutrition and delivering healthy mums activities.

I currently oversee the Parents in the Lead activities fund and feel so proud of what it has achieved.  We have funded and supported over 70 parent-led groups to run projects in their local area for other families.

I am available Monday to Friday.
