Families: get involved

All parents want to do the best for their children, but sometimes they don’t get the support and information they need, when they need it. By working and learning together, families can be empowered to create positive change, so we give all our children the best possible start in life.

All children are important, but their first four years (pregnancy to fourth birthday) are really critical, because their brain develops so quickly in this time. By ensuring good social and emotional development, health and nutrition, and communication, we can give children the best chances of a prosperous, healthy, happy life.

Our projects

We run over 20 projects for pregnant women and families with children under four, including reading, play, healthy cooking and eating, support in the home, English language skills and much more.

Shaista heard about Better Start Bradford through activities at her local children’s centre. She’s now signing up for Welcome to the World courses.

Shaista says: “After chatting to other mums and hearing their stories, I thought “It’s not only me!” - it was such a relief to hear others’ experiences and challenges, and for someone to listen to me. We could talk about everything and everyone was so supportive.”
