Virtual Live Learning Session: Using 50 Things to Do Before You're 5 to Support All Aspects of Child Development
Bite-size learning session
For practitioners and students in public, voluntary, education, arts and any other organisations who work with and support families.
Thursday 17 October 2024
10.00am - 11.30am
Online via MS Teams
50 Things To Do is based on the simple notion that quality time with family, indoors and outdoors, is a great way to support children’s development. We recognise that what parents do with their children at home makes a big difference to their long-term learning and wellbeing. We’ve put together 50 fun, low or no-cost activities for parents/carers to explore and enjoy with their children at their own pace.
Every 50 Things To Do activity provides opportunities to learn, in addition, they support the development of positive relationships between children and caregivers, promote early language development and community cohesion, as well as impacting on child health, both physically and mentally, all whilst playing and having fun.
During the session, practitioners will be introduced to 50 Things to do, and shown our menu of fun, affordable ideas for play and learning with 0-4 year olds that support the creation of a positive home learning environment. We will discuss the importance of play for children, and how using 50 Things to do, to provide different play experiences supports children’s ongoing learning and development. We will look at how different professions use, and promote the use of 50 Things to families, and how this can result in better outcomes for children.
Practitioners will be:
- provided with an understanding of why what parents do with their children impacts their development
- why they are their child’s best and most important educator.
- understand how 50 Things to do can be used to build on their partnerships with parents, and break down possible barriers through our non judgemental approach
