Resilient Communities

For anyone in the BD3 area interested in exploring the effects of positive and negative experiences in childhood

Date & time:

Sat 26 Oct 2019

Laisterdyke Community Centre, Manse Street, BD3 8RP

Aimed at:

Pregnant women/expectant parents
Families with children aged 0-3

About the event:

Our experiences, both positive and negative, shape us and impact the person we become, often in ways we are not aware of.

Better Start Bradford, in partnership with Sharing Voices and SHINE, are delighted to offer this innovative, one-hour information session to explore the adverse impact of negative or traumatic experiences on children, and – importantly – what simple things can be done as individuals and as a community to overcome these.

The session will include:

  • Highlights from the critically acclaimed documentary RESILIENCE: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope. This film looks at the science behind how extreme or prolonged stressful experiences in childhood can affect a person’s brain development, leading to health and social problems into adulthood and throughout a persons’ life.
  • Relaxed group discussions
  • Local case studies

This session is aimed at the local community – anyone aged 16 and over is warmly invited to attend. Once the session has finished, attendees are very welcome to stay for refreshments and to continue conversations about how the content of the session is relevant to our local community.
