Better Start Bradford invites you to the second annual Baby Week Bradford launch event. Led by local early years experts, this event will focus on how critical the earliest years of life are and explore the district’s offer to babies and their families. This is a free event.
Keynote speaker, Rachel Wild (Specialist Midwife with Better Start Bradford), will consider how all of us begin our encounters with maternity services as babies. She’ll pose the questions:
The Bloomin’ Buds Theatre Company will complement Rachel’s address with a special performance of their acclaimed play Brenda’s Got a Baby, with an opportunity for discussion afterwards.
After lunch, join one of the following sessions and/or explore the exhibition area:
Workshop 1: Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCT) presents the film Tigers
The film is a true story of a former Nestle baby milk salesman in Pakistan and the story of how he took on the formula industry after discovering the harm to babies that their aggressive and unethical marketing practices were leading to.
This 90-minute film, in English and Urdu, is being screened during Baby Week Bradford to promote the district-wide breastfeeding strategy.
The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with Jane Dickens, Strategic Breastfeeding Lead, BDCT
Workshop 2: Better Start Bradford presents the film RESILIENCE: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope
Better Start Bradford is thrilled to screen this award-winning film that looks at how extreme or prolonged stressful experiences in childhood can affect a person’s brain development, leading to health and social problems into adulthood.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.
Workshop 3: The Importance of Families in Infant Mental Health – Little Minds Matter: Bradford Infant Mental Health Service
Join the Little Minds Matter team to explore how infant mental health is understood and talked about in families, who may have an influence on an infant’s mental health and how the team attends to the family when working in infant mental health. Little Minds Matter is a Better Start Bradford project delivered by Bradford District Care Foundation NHS Trust.
Workshop 4: Baby Steps Taster Session – Rachael Loftus, Baby Steps Project Co-ordinator, Action for Children
Join the Baby Steps team to experience this innovative group-based programme which supports expectant parents through the emotional and physical transition into parenthood. Baby Steps is a Better Start Bradford project delivered by Action for Children.
Workshop 5: Bradford Literature Festival Poetry Workshop
Hosted by celebrated local poet, Jo Brandon, Bradford Literature Festival invites you to try your hand at ‘flash poetry’ – using the written and spoken word to craft your own lines. There will be a prize for the best couplet on the day!
Workshop 6: Storytime with Noel Ward
Noel Ward will present the tale of Bad Bunny, who is mischief with a capital M! Babies, bring your families for this fun-filled storytime session. Expect lots of laughter, songs, rhymes and a few surprises…
This is a baby-friendly event: breastfeeding friendly (private space also available), play activities and toys welcome, cloakroom space for pushchairs, baby-changing areas available.
Lunch and refreshments are provided.
PLUS: explore the exhibition – a great opportunity to network and find out about the support and services on offer to babies and their families across the district.
