Our Better Start Bradford parents have some very important decisions to make today: who will receive our first Parents in the Lead activities fund awards?
A panel of nine parents and three community board members came together on Friday 17 March, at Better Start Bradford, to decide on new parent-led/grandparent-led activities for local communities.
Parents in the lead activity fund
Better Start Bradford’s Parents in the Lead activities fund launched in February 2017. The activity fund is designed to help parents run activities for their and other families expecting babies or with children under four, in the Better Start Bradford area.
Sheila Brett, Parents in the Lead programme lead at Better Start Bradford said: “We have received a really good selection of activity ideas and I am looking forward to hearing some of the discussions and decisions that will come from our parent panel.”
Members of Killinghall Primary School PTA: Sabrina, Rozina, Runa and Shabana have all joined the panel, they told us: “Only parents know what activities are missing from their child’s life in the local community, so the Parents in the Lead activities fund is perfect for them. We want to see activities that will enable parents and their children to do activities together and things that they would not normally have access to.”
They also had strong advice for future applicants, Rozina said: “The most important thing to ask yourself when putting an application together is ‘who is going to benefit?’ and is there a need and demand for your activity? It is important that young children, parents, grandparents and/or pregnant women are benefiting from your activity.”
Watch this space as we will be announcing our first Parents in the Lead activities fund awards in the coming weeks.
The next deadline for applications is 31 May 2017, with decisions being made in June 2017.
